Why Switch

I have already said I am getting a MacBook Pro and most of you know that. I will be getting it as soon a Leopard comes out so I thought I would tell you why I am switching to Mac OS X!

Hardware

The Mac’s Hardware is one of the Mac’s advantages and disadvantages. It is advantage because you know that you will not by a Mac from Apple and find that the drivers don’t work with Leopard, like on a PC some drivers will not work with Vista. This is because Apple sells you the Hardware and software as one, meaning that they only make drivers for the hardware they use. This does limited your chooses in some things like graphics cards and processors but because Apple don’t spend all that time on those, they spend it on getting cameras to work without doing anything, true plug and play. Hard Drives still work but the limitations of the iMac and Mac Mini’s size stop some drives from being used.

Windows

This reason in my opinion really says why get a PC when you can get a Mac and a PC in one. Apple switched over form the Power PC chip set to intel only about 3 years ago and that meant that windows would now run natively on the Mac with out an emulator but that also meant the you now have to look out for the universal binary symbol on software, but Apple put in place rosette to help run old software packages.

Made for Creative’s

The Mac runs OS X Apple operating system the base core of this is Unix and open source base which makes it easy to develop for. The Mac is known for its creativity because Apple includes the iLife suite, a software suite that makes it easy to organize and create things. Apple has also integrated core audio and core image and soon to integrated core animation these help software developers to tap into the base of the OS to make the most of what is available easily. Apple also sells a large number of Pro version of the iLife suite applications with more advanced capabilities for creating thing but they are still fast and easy to use.

Conclusion

I think window is a great OS but Mac OS X out performs it in security and looks. Apple is ahead of Microsoft by 2-4 years because of what is under the hood and the unix base. Because Microsoft has such a legacy base they are scared of breaking things unlike Apple. You may find that Macs are more expensive this is because the operating system cost a lot less (and have better over all software) and they make up this money on the hardware while windows on its own costs an extortionate amount of money. All those reasons put together is why I am switching.
