Apple have announced that Leopard will come out on the 26th October. Some of its new big features like Bootcamp and iChat’s upgraded are widely known, but what I want to talk about is its small but cool features.
Automator:
Automator was introduced in tiger as an easy way to make workflow’s for a person that doesn’t know how to code. They made it easy to do but some times it was hard to get it to do things exactly as you wanted. In this edition of Automator they have built the ability to record what you are doing. You click record and do you workflow once, and then stop it and it will save it as a workflow. Another update is they have allowed you to loop them with out downloading Automator loop tool. I think I will find this a very helpful upgrade.
Dictionary:
This is one of Apple’s oldest app’s and has not seen much change since OS X was introduced. They have now built in the ability to Wikipedia anything.
Frontrow:
Apple have said a little more about this but its a major upgraded a whole new UI. You can stream iTunes content from other Mac’s and PC’s around the network. What I think is the coolest feature is it’s its own app now so you don’t have to have an Apple remote to launch it.
Photobooth:
Lots has being said about iChat effects but we were never told if they were in Photobooth, and yes there are backdrops and more. Now in Photobooth you can do video recording. There are a whole bunch of new features in Photobooth that you can spend hours playing with.
Mulitcore OS:
Leopard is a full 64bit OS and use the full multiple cores in you Mac and loads of things are now multicore such as mail and safari, and Core services make these even quicker like Core image, Core Audio, Core Video and now Core Animation now give the developers the ability to make super quick sexy apps.
Preview:
has being ignored because of Quicklook but actually there are some very cool new features in it like cropping, rotate and resize this will speed up peoples workflow’s because they will have no need to open Photoshop to crop or resize an image.
Scrolling Inactive windows:
this is one hidden feature but wow. This is cool is you have a list in one app and its to big to see and you have another open but you can see the list on the side just hover over and scroll and it works, Now that’s cool.

Thanks for this – some useful info.
