I have had my MacBook Pro for just over a week now and thought it was time to do a post on my initial thoughts. so lets get started…

Speed

As I have come from a 1.6GHz processor to this 2.6Ghz processor, it is a lot quicker and I love the speed jump, but I need that speed and a bit more to do the video editing i am doing in iMovie. I have already done 4 videos and it takes ages to export videos. The speed seems to help with all my day to day tasks I do.

Display

As you know I did a post on debating to get the glossy or matte screen I went for the glossy; and I have to say I love it. I don’t see glare unless you are in direct sun light and have the screen dimmed and are looking for them, it really takes that much to see them. The glossy also looks great but I would say you notice smudges a bit more so go get some screen wipes. The colours look super nice and rich and deep blacks.

Keyboard and Mouse

The backlit keyboard is a great function to have and very useful, but not only that but it looks superb when lit up. I have found that there not enough keys to do a lot of the short cuts and I have run out of keys. The trackpad is nicer that I thought. I have played with ones and hated the trackpad but I have got used to it and like it the two finger gestures are really clever. I have also setup my logitech V270 and it took seconds to do and works seamlessly with my mac.

OS X and Software

As this is my first mac and leopard is fairly new I thought I might say a few words about it. I find OS X so intuitive and obvious to use and all the iLife suite is great so easy and you can’t find anything that good on a PC. I have tried making blog post on MarsEdit 2 but hate the code interface so have started to use Ecto which is great and is so easy to use and I probably will purchase it. I also thought I would use Quicksilver but I have found myself using Spotlight to do all that and have not installed Quicksliver yet and don’t think I will.

Overall

If this was a windows laptop the hardware is amazing and I would place this to be one of the best windows laptops on the market but the fact it runs OS X makes it even better, this is a amazing laptop and one I would recommend to anyone! I have yet to find anything that does not actually work.
