App:WireTap Pro
Price: $69
OS Version: Leopard and Tiger
Before we go any further the price above is for WireTap Studio which is better than WireTap Pro because you can recored specific apps rather than just the Mac’s audio.I can’t seem to find any links to WireTap Pro any where, I got it from MacHeist as a FREE gift which is nice. I am going to be talking about WireTap Pros but will make notes about Studio. WireTap Pro is a recording app, it has a very small windows so you can be doing other things while recording it is also very simple to setup by just clicking the speaker to record you Mac’s audio and the mic to record your mic’s input. The problem with this is it compresses your audio together with the Mac’s which is not useful for editing, so many people use a combination of a standard recoding app and WireTap Pro. WireTap Studio on the other hand can record a set apps audio so say to wanted to here yourself and Skype but you also had mail open and did not want the new mail sound half way through, this feature would come in handy. Although it still crompresses the audio if you have two inputs into one track which means if you need to do editing it is going to be hard. It has a very simple UI with a big record, stop and pause buttons. If you are not a professional podcaster and want to put out a podcast quickly this is a great app. For the simple reason that it works and well I got it free it gets 4/5 one mark is taken off because of the compressing it into one track and not being able to record a specific app if the pro version, but if you get WireTap Studio the last reason is no longer a problem.
