A couple of weeks ago my dad purchased a PS3 and I have had a good amount of time to play on it ect.. and thought it would be nice to share with you as to why we purchased a PS3 and not an XBOX 360 and it’s pro’s and con’s so far.
Why??
One of the main reasons we bought a PS3 over an XBOX is because we have always had a Playstation, we had a Playstation 1, PS2 and now a PS3 that is one reason. One thing that really annoys me about the XBOX is that you have to pay for the XBOX Live and as far as I understand the Playstation network is free until you purchase games from the store(correct me if I am wrong). There is another thing about the networking that bugs me, the XBOX does not have wireless built in and I don’t have cables going everywhere in my house. Then there is the Blu-Ray and I think we can say that Blu-ray has won. One of my more personal points is that I would rather have a little to do with Microsoft as possible. The final nail in the coffin came this summer the world wide RED RING OF DEATH.
What I like
I bought The Orange Box and Saga Rally and have to say that Saga Rally sucks if you want to actually play it but is great for multi player races. The Orange Box Contains Half Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress. I have never played Half LIfe before and am loving it and well on my way through. Portal is amazing I love it, it rocks!! and Team Fortress well this is sad it is an online player game and I have yet to be abel to sign up for a PS3 network account because the internet connection at my dad is the worst I have ever seen and I have just not been able to sign up and get on to have a game but it looks great. The ability to have users makes it really easy to use a console for a family that way you are not switching in and out memory cards and my stats don’t get mixed with my brothers. The new trigers instead of buttons for the R2 and L2 make a driving game very realistic, and are really comfortable Most of the feature you get in the PS3 are in the XBOX so I am not going to go over them.

What I dislike
One this is that it does not come with an HDMI cable in the box!! We bought one separately and It looks great but because we have a silly over complex TV setup we can’t get the audio over the HDMI, we need to get a Av receiver. One other complaint is that the Playstation network setup takes forever!! It has like 10 steps god why so long!! That would be it there is not much wrong with it that can find.

Conclusion
I am very happy that I got a PS3 over an XBOX and would recommend a PS3 to anyone especially as it is going to have better looking and more advanced game for it in a few more months as developers have had some time to play with the console. Over all the PS3 is a great console and I am glad I got it over the XBOX 360.

I think I can answer some of your questions about the Xbox 360 and put a bit of insight into why I chose one over the Playstation 3:
One thing that really set me off getting a Playstation 3 has the fact that our Playstation 2 broke so I wasn’t sure if it was worth risking it again.
Yes you do have to pay for Xbox Box LIVE Gold but not Silver. I don’t think that it’s a negative having to pay for it as it is pretty much universally agreed that LIVE is the best online gaming experience around. After all that is what the Xbox 360 experience is all about – Online gameplay.
As for your point around accessories: I think it is a good thing that you don’t get it all-in-one. I mean, if we got wireless built in we would have payed for something we didn’t use. It’s the same with blu-ray for the Playstation 3. We don’t have our 360 plugged into an HD Tv all the time – this means that be would have payed for something that I wouldn’t use.
And consider that Blu-Ray hadn’t won the format war, that would mean that they have this drive which no one is making movies for, while in this case Microsoft is easily able to move to the Blu-Ray platform with ease and not loose anything.
As for “we had a Playstation 1, PS2 and now a PS3 that is one reason” I’m snot sure if that really helps considering… http://tinyurl.com/2mvvkn
The Rd Ring of Death has been a problem for a fair few number of people, however I am not to worried as Microsoft announced last year that it would be replace all those broken consoles with new ones for free, which are meant to have better performance then the older models.
And finally the games, the Playstation doesn’t really have that many exclusives that I would want while the 360 on the other hand has quite a few: Bioshock, Halo 3 and the episodic GTA IV content (http://tinyurl.com/2wasxj).
I hope you understand my reasons, I won’t even go into price, just compare what you can get for the same money with an Xbox 360
abel=able
I really like my PS3. You need to get Fall of Man and GH3. They are both awesome. I am going to be selling my ps3 in the next few days because I don’t have time to play it. I still prefer it over any system.
Good job!
Jonathan, that is probably the worst reasoning I’ve seen in some time for why you chose the 360 over the PS3. How can you bring yourself to say its a good thing you don’t get all-in-one. Why wouldn’t you want to have wireless, why wouldn’t you want a next generation storage medium. I’m pretty sure the 360 is the first system of a generation that used a last generation medium. You also name 2 so called exclusives in Bioshock and H3. One already available for pc and the other soon to be. Thats one of 360s unknown problems. They’ve already dropped their best games. And their best games, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc are all available on the PC. So why buy this machine at all, especially when these days its not guaranteed it will work very long.
Hey ProKid
Let me expand on the points that you brought out:
“Why wouldn’t you want to have wireless” – We have an ethernet port right next to the TV, therefore we don’t need wireless and don’t need to pay what would be the extra money.
“why wouldn’t you want a next generation storage medium” – In case the other looses, luckily for Sony there’s didn’t. But they wouldn’t be in a good position if it had been the other way around.
“last generation medium” – Last time I checked the Wii couldn’t play DVDs – though it does use the DVD technology.
“One already available for pc and the other soon to be” – my mistake there, I should have pointed out console exclusive rather than exclusive.
“They’ve already dropped their best games” – So are we all going to forget about Gears of War 2, Halo Wars and Ninja Gaiden 2. The 360 has plenty of years left in it so plenty of time for new games to be released, there is no doubt in my mind the 2007 was a good gaming year for the 360 and it sounds like 208 will be a good one for the PS3.
I own an Nintendo Wii, it’s much better and it’s way better value than the PS3 and Xbox 360.
