iPlayer on the iPod

Just before Apple release the SDK the BBC iPlayer site went down for a couple of minutes and when it came back up if you navigate to the page on an iPod you got little beta triangle. The BBC have only set some programs so that they can be played back on the iPod. They are using H.264 mpg4 the stream is only 516Kbps which most people’s internet can handle.

The streams are quick to start and good looking the only problem is you have to be on the WiFi to stream them, EDGE is to slow. They have not said what they will do with the SDK, but I suspect they will introduce some kind of way to download for a couple of days. The site renders nicely in safari and is easy to navigate, the only downside is that they have not got that many videos available to view, which I hope will increase, but they might have problems with deciding weather or not to release shows like Torchwood which you can buy from the iTunes Store but I hope they do because although the internet is really slow at school I can actually view the show with in about 10 seconds of clicking the link.
