When I bought my camera I also bought a cheap (well was cheap then) 1GB SD card. I had noticed that I was getting nowhere near the 3.5fps I was meant to but I just thought that was because I always shot at a to high setting to get the full 3.5fps. I had also experienced the camera not excepting the card when it got bit cold and I would take it out and put it in and it would work for a while. Over time I realised these were not the cameras problems but in fact it was the cards fault. It was a cheap card and was never going to have the best read and write times and work in extreme cold but I was surprised how easily the card stopped if it got a bit cold and how slow it was. So recently I bought myself a SandDisk Ultra II and and Extreme III to see if it made any improvement.
Ultra II
I tried the Ultra II out first and found that it work much better in the cold and I could reach those 3.5fps in fine JPG OK, and carry on shooting at that rate for a bit longer, but I still wanted to get fast speeds and if the card was left out of the camera for a bit in the cold it would need to be rubbed to warm it up.
Extreme III
The Extreme III on the other hand can do a continuous stream of 3.5fps on fine JPG. On the cold front in Iceland I have yet for it to give up even if left out for a bit it would continue to work! I am now testing it in Egypt and it works a treat. It is amazing how a simple thing like a SD card can effect you so much. It goes to show cheap is not always cheerful.
