Your mac even if you don’t now has a desktop mode. If you have an external display for your laptop and you want to use it at it native resolution (this does not work in mirror mode it uses the lowest resolution of the available displays) To get into desktop mode start by shutting down you mac, then connect all the necessary cable and turn the external displays on, now you are ready to boot your machine but close the lid before the bong sound! Your mac should boot normaly and your display will be at its native resolution. I hope this helped and if you need any help just shoot me an email and I will see if i can help.
