Size=Productivity

With a Laptop you are often looking for portability and that most likely come in a very small package such as a MBP or even a Asus EEE PC. The biggest downside to going small is real estate and I mean the screen kind. Even with a 15″ screen it can be to small for a few of the more demanding tasks such as Photoshop and Video Editing. A it just so turns out that I do both of these.

So a few months ago I purchased a 24″ Dell E248WFP LCD and when I am using it I find my self running 2x more apps than usual and absorbing information way faster than with 15″‘s. My dream setup would have another 19″ vertically along side with chat and Twitter in it but for now I have only this. My point is the extra pixels really do improve and increase productivity, I know it is all the rage to go small i.e. MBA but sometime a compromise is to far and I think this is one.

I would advice anyone who can afford a larger screen and would use it to get one. A larger screen can really help make things look clearer and you still have your laptop’s screen if you wan it.

    Nice I’ve got the same monitor. Though I do wish I spent more on the ultrasharp model

    I would say it depends entirely on what you’re using your computer for. Sure, if you’re doing photo or video editing, that’s a good reason to get a bigger display as the more screen real estate the better. However, with the inclusion of virtual desktops in most OS’s now, we can multitask to our hearts’ content and still be organised. Spaces in Leopard has been a lifesaver for me, and negates the need for an external display for my MacBook.

    reemix I use spaces all the time but I just find sometime it is quicker and easier to have it all on one display that is larger.
